Chefchaouen is a charming town of around 40,000 inhabitants located in the northeast of Morocco, not far from the Mediterranean Sea. Situated in the heart of the Moroccan Rif mountains, Chefchaouen is a favorite among tourists, not only for its affordable prices, but also for its picturesque old town with its whitewashed houses covered in a very unique shade of blue.
Chefchaouen is a particularly authentic Moroccan city, with whitewashed house walls also painted blue with a mineral pigment called pale blue. This blue decoration adds a lot of charm to the narrow streets of the medina, which can also be visited by taking the stairs and very narrow alleys. The doors of the houses are also blue, and some of them look like true works of art. It's a great place to relax, although it's a steep city.
