Marrakech, the red city, is located at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. Undoubtedly the tourist hub of the Kingdom, it is the fourth-largest city in the country, after Casablanca, Fes, and Tangier.
Surrounded by high walls for about 10 kilometers, the Medina is the historical center of Marrakech. Stay in magnificent traditional houses transformed into hotels and guesthouses. As such, the gardens of the Medina were princely palaces before being renovated to welcome the public in the early 2000s. The Medina not only houses the Djemaa el Fna square, which conveys the cosmopolitan image of Marrakech, but also the souks, which are very popular with tourists. A maze of narrow streets and thousands of food stalls entertain and confuse visitors. A landmark of the city, the 12th-century minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque is visible from afar. But the Medina is more than just a tourist destination. A significant portion of the population still lives there.
Warm and welcoming, Marrakech hosts many art and cinema festivals. The atmosphere, colors, and climate remind us that vegetation irrigated by water from the snowy Atlas Mountains in winter is omnipresent even if the desert is just a few steps away.
